Formerly a degraded catchment for the Fitzroy area

Peringa Park

The Peringa Park wetland site was formerly a degraded catchment for the Fitzroy area and fed directly into adjacent Lake Rotomanu.  Bespoke worked with New Plymouth District Council and Kauri Park Nurseries to design a wetland that would improve water quality entering the lake whilst also sitting naturally within its rural parkland environment.

The wetland was also viewed in its wider context and future walkway connections considered to link other areas of the park.  Elements incorporated within the wetland included paths, boardwalks, viewing areas, seating and educational signage.  A further advancement is the inclusion of a floating treatment wetland, an artificial planted island that provides high levels of treatment as the plants strip the nutrients directly from the water rather than through the soil media.
