The Hamilton Lake playspace was officially opened by Hamilton mayor Julie Hardaker on the 18th of January. This to an audience of eager children, whom have watched one of the cities favourite play areas transformed over previous months. Bespoke were honoured to play an integral part in the design of this project in collaboration with Future Landscapes, Playrope and Hamilton City Council.
The playspace replaces a large section of the existing play area that was much in need of renewal and is one of a series of destination playgrounds that are planned for the city. The new features include a large fort like play structure, the relocation of the disabled access swing, a new disabled access spinning roundabout and a series of exciting water play rills and stations. The design specifically seeks to cater better for users of all ages and abilities, including less able users. From a design perspective it was important to us that it fused in well with the existing landscape and felt like part of this rather than inserted upon it. Based on the reaction from the kids its already proving to be a great success!
