Just in time for summer and the school holidays, Saturday December 14th saw Auckland's first Splashpad water play area opened at Potters Park in Balmoral.
Following official speeches and a blessing ceremony the ribbon was cut by Local Board Chair Peter Haynes and the taps turned on - much to the delight of a large group of patiently waiting children!
Bespoke were engaged by Auckland Council to design and facilitate the installation of the splashpad and worked in association with Playrope and Vortex to take the concept design through detailed design and consent to reality on the ground. Peter Beets and his team from Playworks Construction performed a fantastic job as the lead contractors. What has been created is a water play area that incorporates numerous interactive water play elements including dumping water features, fountains, misters and sprayers which accommodate children of all ages. As well as the splashpad itself the development called for the installation of a pump house which was added as an extension to the existing toilet block - the walls have received an extension of the colourful mural from a local artist.
We look forward to seeing the park being utilised further as word gets around about this unique new asset within the city.
