SANDERS RESERVE DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY

Sanders Reserve and associated facilities provide a great environment for beginner and intermediate mountain bike riders to develop their skills. 10 years on from the initial 2007 development plan, aspirations are not quite meeting user group needs and some of the original track network is no longer legible due to lower frequency of use and extensive maintenance requirements. As experienced riders and designers, Bespoke were engaged to review the existing development plan and develop a strategy aimed at guiding adjustments to improve frequency of use and experience. This included rationalising an approach to site development, conducting on site investigation and analysis of existing track facilities, and the identification of actions and a potential phasing strategy to enable meaningful dialogue with key stakeholders. In this regard, information was articulated at a strategic level to inform discussion, future investigation and design by Auckland Council and partner custodian groups.
