TOTARA PARK

Totara Park presents a unique opportunity to build on existing user groups and accommodate regional activities with an integrated mix of both passive and informal recreation. Its location adjacent to the Regional Botanic Garden also presents the opportunity of being a destination facility. Bespoke were engaged to develop a high level vision for the parks development that will allow for current and future use of the area, then develop selected areas for implementation. Extensive consultation was undertaken and consideration given to adjacent land use and future growth with a view to establishing a destination facility to attract users from the wider Auckland region. Design proposals were aimed at enabling range of outdoor recreation activities without compromising the parks rural character, included enhancement of ecological areas, establishing linkages to adjacent bush reserves, the development of recreational activities including walking, mountain, biking, equestrian bridle trails, the inclusion of play facilities and integration of an historic homestead.
