TE PAE MAHARA/ROULSTON PARK

Te Pae Mahara (Roulston Park) has been designed in collaboration with mana whenua, the Franklin Local Board, Auckland Council, Eke Panuku and the community to meet the needs of a growing and more diverse Pukekohe. The proposed development includes upgrade of the existing playspace, improved amenities and access, and an improved setting for the existing historic cottage on site. Ngāti Tamaoho and Ngāti Te Ata Waiohua have played a direct role in the park’s design, including the development of cultural narrative and support to better understand the cultural significance of the area. Te Waiohua rōpū have also nominated the mana whenua artists who have developed the mahi toi (artwork) to be integrated into the design. Overall, the design significantly enhances functional use, amenity and cultural awareness through positive contrast and expression.
