APPIAN WAY

The Appian Way development supports a strong landscape response, both in relation to its connectivity to the existing streetscape environment and the creation of generous external spaces for the buildings users and inhabitants. Designed by Monk Mackenzie, the architectural approach supports this further by focusing public interface through retail and commercial use directly into the landscape areas. The lower street level being the retail edge and a large upper courtyard space being the commercial edge, as well as a passive recreation zone for apartment occupants. Leading from the street to the courtyard level are a bold set of stairs and terraces, that enable both a direct pedestrian connection but also open views to the green lung of the courtyard above. The courtyard is envisaged to be a very 'green' space, and is essentially a folded lawn terrain punctuated by a number of specimen trees and integrated seating elements.
