KAINGA ORA PROJECTS

Bespoke have worked to develop the landscape and urban design responses for a number of Kainga Ora redevelopment projects. These sought to improve and expand upon the quality of the current housing stock, through removal and replacement with new architecturally designed standalone, semi-detached, terrace and walk up apartment units. The denser architectural layouts present a range of challenges that must be resolved within the landscape areas such as a creating positive streetscape interfaces, balancing of hard and soft landscape zones, limiting high degrees of impermeable surface area, balancing of levels between units, fencing for safety and privacy, integration of productive landscape areas and allowing for practical constraints such as washing lines and waste bin storage.  The overriding goal being to address all of these aspects in a coordinated and aesthetically positive manner that provides highly positive end user experiences.
