HEARD PARK
Bespoke are proud to be playing a key role in the refresh of Heard Park in central Auckland. The park, donated by the Heard family who’s candy factory operated in the adjacent land from 1921 to 1975, provides an important outdoor space for local businesses, residents and visitors. The proposed revitalisation of the space consists of a new paved layout with flexible seating options, the extension of garden beds around existing mature trees, opening up of the central lawn space for events, and an artful play space inspired by Heards iconic range. The final design responded to a collective desire for a ‘landmark artwork’. Key themes that emerged in the design process were iconic, interactive, artful and sculptural in deference to the unique art and design character of Parnell. Using colour and translucence was seen as an opportunity to potentially reference ‘lolly colours’ as a homage to the Heard family and the history of Heard’s Candy.
